Famous Matt Burgers

The wonders of Twitter…

A few months ago I posted on Twitter about my BBQ sauce, it drew quite a bit of attention, and I received a lot of tweets from people saying they would like to try it out some time. I also received a tweet from @Mattja, saying that he was going to give my sauce recipe a go, and that I should give his “World famous Matt Burgers” recipe a go. I took him up on his offer, and offered to post the results, and his recipe on this blog once I had tried them.

Lessons learnt

I learnt a few lessons over the weekend.
Firstly, despite it only being November & with a forecasted temp of 24, you can still get extremely sunburnt.
Secondly, the slogan “Slip, Slop, Slap” does not mean Slip into a comfy deck chair, slop a can into a stubby holder & slap some meat on the BBQ.
Thirdly, if you are sunburnt from sitting outside at a BBQ on Saturday, then the decision to go for a 2hr bike ride in the middle of the day Sunday is a bad one. Sunburn on Sunburn is painful.

As you can probably guess, I was irresponsible out in the sun over the weekend, and now I’m paying for it. I’m not looking for any sympathy, because obviously it is my own stupid fault. But hopefully by writing all of this down, I can hopefully go through the rest of Summer without getting burnt like this again.

And finally, the most important lesson I learnt… Spray on Aloe Vera is worth more than gold.

The big test…

After making a batch of my BBQ Sauce on Friday night, I needed to trial it. First I needed some guinea pigs… I mean, friends, to experiment on… I mean, share my sauce with. As luck would have it, @lilylauren & @andrewsayer had invited a group of us over for a BBQ on Saturday (how convenient).  So, Friday night, I cooked up a batch of sauce, covered a couple of steaks with it, and put them in the fridge to marinate for approximately 20hrs.

The day had been planned as a Bakedate for the girls, and BBQdate for the boys.  As soon as we arrived, I was quickly ushered to the BBQ by Andrew.  I guess they were hungry, or eager to test out my sauce.  Either way we fired up the ManStove straight away.  I unveiled my well marinated steaks, and was met with watering mouths, a great sign for me.  As well as the steaks, we had a variety of sausages, and a bag of chicken wings.  The wings were promptly doused with copious amounts of sauce, and thrown on the BBQ with the steaks.

As the girls prepared baked goods and gossiped about the latest fashion trends, nail polish colours, and what ever else it is they talk about, the men had some serious discussions over the grill.  With drinks in hand, we discussed important topics, such as sauce ingredients, meat selection and preparation, and general plans for world domination.

It wasn’t long until the meat was ready.  This was the moment I had been anxiously waiting for…  some feedback on “Tw1sty’s Smokey Bourboun BBQ Sauce.”  With mouths full of meat, it was hard to get a straight answer, but by the speed at which the food was consumed, I’m going to assume the sauce is a success.  Now the only thing to do is make another batch, and organise another BBQ.

Tw1sty’s Smoky Bourbon BBQ Sauce

I have finalised the recipe for “Tw1sty’s Smoky Bourbon BBQ Sauce” you can view it by clicking the link at the top of this page, or by clicking here: Tw1sty’s Smoky Bourbon BBQ Sauce Recipe

I will be “unveiling” the sauce at a friends BBQ on the weekend. I’ll be using it to marinade a couple of steaks, and maybe even to make some “Smokey BBQ chicken wings.” Hopefully I’ll get some photos and reviews of the sauce to post on here.
